Ember is built to keep your data yours. Whenever your devices can reach each other directly — over Bluetooth or your local Wi-Fi network — your clipboard, images, and files travel straight between your devices and never touch the internet.
Every transfer is end-to-end encrypted with AES-256-GCM, using keys exchanged during pairing (X25519). Those keys are generated on your devices and never leave them.
Cloud sync (optional)
Cloud sync is off by default. If you turn it on, it bridges your devices over a hosted relay when they aren't on the same network. To use it you sign in with just your email address — there is no password. The relay is zero-knowledge: it forwards the same end-to-end-encrypted data your devices already exchange and cannot read its contents.
When cloud sync is enabled, the data associated with your account is limited to:
- Your email address, used only to sign in and identify your account.
- Encrypted relay traffic, which the relay forwards but cannot decrypt.
Bluetooth and Wi-Fi sync require no account and send nothing to any server.
Analytics & tracking
Ember does not show ads, sell data, or run third-party trackers. It does not collect your clipboard contents, device identifiers, or personal information for analytics.
